Have you always wondered about the differences between conventional, in-conversion, and organic cotton? We’ve got you covered. 

• Conventional cotton often time uses genetically modified cotton seeds. In addition, the cotton crops are grown with pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to maximise the crop yield. However, these practices may harm the environment, farmers and communities.
• Organic cotton has no genetically modified seeds (non-GMO) and no chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used in its cultivation. As a whole, organic cotton uses less water consumption and less acidification while having less impact on global warming and causing less potential soil erosion. 
• You may be thinking; what about in-conversion cotton? The main purpose of “In-conversion” cotton (sometimes called “organic in transition”) is to bring farmers from conventional practices to organic practices and therefore to increase the amount of organic cotton available in the future. The conversion period to organic cotton is often a three years period, during which the farmer will use the practices of the organic agriculture. This is basically the period needed to “clean” the land from any chemical  product that have been used till then, in the conventional farming practices. The cotton might therefore not be fully organic as it could contain traces of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
